Linda Lucchesi Cody passed away on July 19, 2018, after a 5 year course of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She managed her illness with grace, strength, determination, lack of self-pity, and with an ongoing concern for others. She wrapped these traits with a smile, and a sustained joy and inquisitiveness for life, every day of this ordeal.
A native of the Philadelphia area, she attended Rosemont College, Lehigh University, and the Ohio State University. She was an educator in the marine and ecological sciences for most of her life. As a landscape architect, she helped renew and sustain one of the oldest peony gardens in the United States, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and taught classes at the New York Botanical Garden. Since retirement, she managed her own extensive gardens and an apple orchard in Hunterdon County New Jersey, and founded Cider Hill Orchard, prior to her illness.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years Robert J. Cody M.D. She is also survived by their daughter Christina Anne Cody, their son Michael Lucchesi Cody, his wife Jessica, and their grand-daughter Rose.
There will be a small service of immediate family, with plans for a larger memorial event later this summer, to honor this remarkable and courageous woman.
