Louise Crestan Mosiello

July 12, 1941 — November 30, 2021

Louise Crestan Mosiello passed peacefully in the Readington family home she treasured on November 30th, 2021 at the age of 80. Born in Middle Village, Queens, NY during World War 2, Louise was the daughter of Slavic European parents--Louis Crestan, who had twice immigrated to America from Yugoslavia, and his wife Zdenka Crestan (Bach). Sadly, Zdenka died when Louise was just a baby and her sister Roberta was a young girl. Louis raised his girls with the ethos of tenacity, education, and purpose, sharing his love for languages (as he spoke as many as 11). As first generation Americans, the girls learned to share their secrets with each other in German, and to curse in Yugoslav. Louise would come to graduate high school in Queens at a surprisingly early age, having strong intellectual abilities, due in large part to her love for reading. This could be seen in the final family home which was always filled with books. Louise’s life path took her to Manhattan, where she met her future husband, a then model and actor Stan Mosiello while they worked for TWA and PanAm offices. They bonded over similar family losses, as Stan had lost his father when he was also a baby, as well sharing a zeal for life, faith, and the arts. Their love was true from the start and she married into a large Italian-American family in 1965. Their dreams took them into NJ where they first resided in Nutley, and their children were later born. Living near Stan’s immediate family, Louise, Stan and his sister Veronica with her husband Bob Campione, along with their mother Josephine Mosiello, would raise their children in close proximity in the countryside of Warren, New Jersey. The two families remained close for decades, sharing all aspects of life. In 1979, Stan and Louise began to build their final family home in bucolic Readington Township, where she resided until her death. The former Queens girl took a bit to adjust to a more rural life, which she came to adore, having nature at her doorstep with the constant deer, her many family pets over the years, and the joy of balloons often landing on the 5 acre property. She would later say she could never go back to living in The City even though she was a Queens girl at heart. The untimely loss of her husband Stan in 1992 became a milestone for her and her children, losing the family patriarch and the love of her life, but her love for him remained strong as she longed for the day to reunite with him in Heaven. Louise endured the loss, but her life’s focus stayed on faith and love for family. Her faith in Jesus defined her life, and she was highly involved with church and faith-related activities. Her tenacious nature and personality led her to guide her family with education and opportunities, while maintaining faith and family tradition. Her strong faith but gentle heart led her to guide many in their spiritual journey. Her friends and family would attest that to know her was to love her, as Louise had a loving and giving heart for all. She had a passion for the under privileged having grown up poor, and had a generous and charitable heart for giving love and charitable help to any in need. Louise always enjoyed the support of both her close and extended family, all of whom were helpful in life through to her final days. She remained strong in mind and body, and was grateful for relative health until her unexpected passing. There were so many branches of the family tree (thanks in great part to Stan having more than 50 first cousins), so it is difficult to mention all members individually, but a listing would not be limited to and most certainly include all members of the Campione family, the Caffrey family, the Iwanski family, and of course the numerous members of the extended family--the surviving Mosiello cousins, such as the Mosiello, Cavalieri, Hales, and Cito families, just to express a short list. From the day of their marriage until her passing, family was the underlying purpose for which she lived. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Zdenka, and her husband’s parents Michael and Josephine Mosiello, as well as her recent losses of Veronica and Robert Campione, and her sister Roberta and stepsister Bonita Leopold. Louise is survived by her children, her son Michael (with his life partner Christy Colato) and daughter Laura. Michael and Laura find it important to express continued and endless love to friends and family for the memories and happiness shared at every opportunity to Louise and her children; it offered them a lifetime of comfort, support, and love. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Visitation hours will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the funeral home. For those inclined, the family asks in her memory to continue the tradition of expressing love to all that you can at every opportunity you can. Although flowers are appreciated, Louise's preference would have been to give someone else a chance to feel love and opportunities they might not otherwise have through donations to the Make-A-Wish foundation in her name. Memorial contributions may be directed to Make-A-Wish New Jersey, 1384 Perrineville Road, Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
