Lucia T. DeScala, age 84, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born March 20, 1930, in Flemington, NJ, Lucy was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine (Calcaterra) Tufo. She lived for many years in Dunellen, NJ, with her husband, Alfred DeScala, helping to run their auto parts business, Al’s Auto Store. Together they travelled throughout the United States and many parts of Europe. She worked for more than ten years at the Jockey Outlet store in Flemington. Lucy was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. John’s Church in Dunellen and St. Magdalen Church in Flemington.
Predeceased by her parents, five sisters, three brothers and her husband, Alfred, Lucy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred and Jan DeScala, Jr. of Flemington NJ, William and Andrea DeScala of Littleton CO, her daughter, Lucia DeScala of Flemington NJ, her son, Timothy DeScala of Littleton CO, hers sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy DeScala of Middlesex NJ, Ignatius and Fiona DeScala of Flemington NJ, and her sister, Rose Markert of Pennsylvania.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Louis, Vincent, Liana, Larissa, Olivia, Lorenzo DeScala, and Kelly Wilson, one great-grandchild, Nathan Wilson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her family, Lucy was a “mother” to many and leaves a large extended family and will always be remembered for her kindness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:30 am in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington. Burial will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
