M. Louise Van Assen, age 76 years, of Alpha, NJ, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ.

Born in Kearny, NJ, December 28, 1928, daughter of the late George and Erna Voelker Riffel, she had formerly resided in Flemington, NJ, Washington, NJ, and Citrus Springs, FL before moving to Alpha three years ago.

A computer operator, she was formerly employed by A. & P. Stores; then by Hooper Homes, Basking Ridge, NJ and lastly by Fullerton Ford, Somerville, NJ.

Active in the Order of the Eastern Star for many years, she was a member of Victory Chapter and also of Morning Star Chapter, both of Hamilton Square, NJ. She was Past Matron of other Eastern Star Chapters including Darcy Chapter 138 in Flemington and Hopewell Chapter, Hopewell, NJ. She was formerly Secretary to the Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star for New Jersey and was its' current representative to the Grand Chapter of the State of Wyoming.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flemington, NJ.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-seven years, Louis Van Assen; two daughters, Nancy Bigger of Proctor, PA and Anita Van Assen of Flemington, NJ; two sons, Karl Van Assen of Washington, NJ and Robert Van Assen of Lecanto, FL; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ with Eastern Star Services at 8 p.m. Interment will be private. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for further information or to send condolences.
