Mack R. Mericle, a former long-time resident of Lake Shawnee, Morris County, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Independence Manor, Raritan Township, NJ. He was 87 years of age.
Born in Decatur, IL, October 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Ralph R. and Lora (McKinnon) Mericle. He was raised in Blue Mound, IL and went on to Millikin University, Decatur, IL, earning a degree in biochemistry. Later, he attended Indiana University’s graduate school.
Mr. Mericle was a member of the staff at Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals, Nutley, NJ, the U.S. headquarters of Roche Holding Ltd. Basel, Switzerland. By his own admission, he had a “remarkably rewarding career”. He retired in 1995 as Director of Strategic Regulatory Planning & Staff Development after 26 years of service. Earlier, he had served as Associate Director of Drug Regulatory Affairs and in other managerial positions related to drug regulatory affairs. Additionally, he was involved in merger and acquisition evaluations in Germany, France, England, and Palo Alto, California.
He was a member of The New York Academy of Sciences, The Chemists Club of New York City, The Drug Information Association, and The Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling the world with his late wife. Their excursions, via plane, train, automobile or cruise ship, took them all over the world, most notably across Europe and the United States. Additionally, he was a lover of classical music, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed the recreational activities of fishing and boating with his family on Lake Shawnee. Finally, he was extremely handy, and was capable of any home improvement project. In fact, he built an addition on the family home without the help of a contractor.
However, above all, he will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather to his family. Someone who would always “look at the big picture”.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda S. (Jefry) Mericle, who died in 2018.
Surviving are his two daughters and their spouses, Dianna L. Mericle-Bozzo and her husband Victor of Ringoes, NJ and Heather A. Cecco and her husband Vic of Montville, NJ; five grandchildren, Rebecca, John, Nicholas, Christian, and Hayden; as well as his sisters, Marilyn Latin and Mary Faith Lindsey.
There is a celebration of life service being planned at a later date and time to be announced by the family.
Cremation services and arrangements are private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. For further information or to send an online condolence, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.holcombefisher.com.
