Madaleine Welsh, age 101 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.

Born in Raritan Township, NJ, October 13, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Cruser and Cora Lowe Polhemus.

She graduated from Trenton Normal School (now The College of New Jersey) and embarked upon a long and dedicated teaching career in the elementary schools of Readington Township. She retired in 1980 after many years teaching first grade.

At her home in Whitehouse Station, NJ, "Maddy" enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening, reading, and sewing. After her retirement, she also took pleasure in bowling, traveling, and socializing with her friends and family.

Her husband, Joseph Robert Welsh, died in 1959. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law; Roger and Sharon Welsh of East Brunswick, NJ, and Robert and Kalayaporn Welsh of Locust Grove, VA; two brothers, Abraham Polhemus of Edgewater, FL, and Harold Polhemus of Somerville, NJ; and her grandchildren: Michael Welsh, Brian Welsh, Gordon Welsh, and Lucas Welsh.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Clover Hill Cemetery, Clover Hill, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
