Margaret Eleanor Allaway, a longtime employee of Time-Life Inc., died on Friday, April 28, 2006 in Flemington, New Jersey. She was 83 years old.

Known to family and friends as Nell, she was born and raised in Homer, Nebraska. Valedictorian of her high school class, she graduated in 1944 from the University of Nebraska, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was employed by Life Magazine and Time-Life Inc. until her retirement in 1982, primarily in advertising promotion. She also served as an officer of the management consulting firm of Frank Lang & Associates.

At the time of her death, Nell Allaway had lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for more than 60 years. She held a lifelong interest in the arts, was an aficionado of opera and classical music, a dedicated subscriber to the New York Philharmonic, New York City Opera and other local cultural activities, and a decades-long member of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Museum of Natural History. In her retirement, she was active in the Time-Life Alumni Association, traveled extensively, and maintained a devoted interest in her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Nell Allaway was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Allaway, and three brothers, Howard, Robert and Hubert. She is survived by a sister, Jean Knudsen of Lexington, Nebraska, five nieces and five nephews.

A private burial service will be held in Homer, with arrangements by Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, South Sioux City, Nebraska. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
