Margaret Smithen

Margaret Smithen of Stanton, NJ, died on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington, NJ. She was 86.

Born in Somerville, NJ, September 7, 1927, daughter of the late Thomas and Rachel Schwenger Traynor, Margaret was a lifelong resident of the Hunterdon County area.

Margaret was a 1945 Flemington High School graduate and a Trenton State College graduate. She started her career as a nurse at Somerset Medical Center. She was a school nurse at Robert Hunter Elementary School for twenty-seven years.

After retiring, Margaret continued caring for others through her work with Hunterdon Hospice and her many years volunteering for Hunterdon Medical Center.

Margaret was a long time member of the Stanton Reformed Church, Readington Township, NJ.

She was pre-deceased by a brother, Raymond Traynor and her husband, William Smithen. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindi and Joe Troegner of Flemington, NJ and Kathy and Jim Verser of Bloomsbury, NJ; and her three grandchildren, Jennifer Verser of St. Petersburg, FL and Christopher Troegner and Sarah Troegner, both of Flemington, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:30 AM in the Stanton Reformed Church, 1 Stanton Mountain Road, Stanton, NJ. Interment will be private in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
