Maria Francisca Maldonado, age 91 years, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 27, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, October 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Abelina (Lopez) Peralta.

As a young woman, she graduated from the Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Colombia. She and her husband, Pastor Vicente Maldonado, were an integral part of the Baptist Church community in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for many years.

In 1983, she and her husband immigrated to the United States and first settled in New Orleans, LA. There, they led the Central Baptist Church congregation from 1983-1995. Additionally, while in New Orleans, Maria worked for the Wembley Tie Company, helping to manufacture neck ties. She eventually retired in 1994. Prior to making her way to New Jersey, she had resided in Rockville, MD from 1995-1998, Bethel, CT from 1998-2000, and finally Flemington, NJ since June of 2000, where she spent the rest of her days.

Once in Flemington, she became a well-known figure in the Christian Hispanic local community. She was known for her sense of humor as well as her zest for life. Maria will also be remembered as a woman of great wisdom, someone who had the ability to counsel and advise friends and family on almost any topic. This came incredibly naturally to her.

Maria also enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Right up until her final days, she still enjoyed making dolls for her grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, the late Amparo Ortiz, who died in January of 2022.

Surviving are her husband of sixty-nine years, Rev. Vicente Maldonado of Flemington, NJ; five children, Wilfredo Maldonado and his wife Susana of Miami, FL, Samuel Maldonado and his wife Miriam of Flemington, NJ, Mario Maldonado and his wife Nora of Memphis, TN, Lizete Castro and her husband Juan Ramon of Longview, TX, and Fannie Castellano and her husband Carlos also of Memphis, TN; as well as seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

A visitation will take place Thursday evening, February 29, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Funeral services will follow the next day, Friday, March 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Heritage Baptist Church, 1 Autumn Leaf Drive, Flemington, NJ. Graveside services and burial will immediately follow in Cherryville Mountainview Cemetery, 594 Cherryville Road, Cherryville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Maria’s name be made to The Friendship Center For New Beginnings, 162 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.

María Francisca Maldonado, de 91 años de edad, residente de Flemington, NJ, paso a la presencia del Señor el martes por la noche, 27 de febrero de 2024, en Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Nacida en Tegucigalpa, Honduras, el 4 de octubre de 1932, ella fue hija de los ya fallecidos José Peralta y Abelina López. Entre los hispanos fue conocida con el nombre de doña Paca o doña Paquita.

La visita funeraria se llevará acabo el jueves por la noche, febrero 29, 2024 de 6:00-8:00 PM en Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
