Maria Tomaro

Maria Tomaro, age 99 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, formerly of Branchburg, NJ, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Boiano, Italy, September 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Michela Taddeo Venditti.

Maria was a homemaker and an exceptional cook. Both friends and family of several generations loved her Italian dishes (especially her meatballs and lasagna) made with fresh ingredients from the enormous garden she maintained in her backyard in Branchburg. Maria was also a devout Catholic who watched Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. She enjoyed visiting with her family, making her morning espresso and eating dessert every night.

Her husband, Carlo Alberto Tomaro, died in 1996. Surviving are her five sons: Dominic Tomaro of Asbury, NJ, Anthony Tomaro of Branchburg, NJ, Vincent Tomaro of Bangor, PA, Michael Tomaro of Alpha, NJ, and Jack Tomaro of Bangor, PA; two daughters, Anna Potynsky of Hillsborough, NJ, and Rita Wilton of Raritan Township, NJ; two brothers, Francesco Venditti and Antonio Venditti, both in Canada; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Entombment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Bridgewater, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 5-8 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
