A victim of Hitler's Nazi Germany World War II Holocaust, Marianna Forbath Cass, died on Friday, December 5, 2008 in Rittenhouse Pines Rehabilitation Center, Norristown, PA.
She was born Novemer 20, 1926 to the late Erno and Maria Meisels Forbath. The Forbath family, living in Debrecen, Hungary, was suddenly deported to Auswich on July 1, 1944. The young Marianna saw her mother and grandmother designated for death, while her father and brother were sent with her to forced labor camps.
The end of the war in 1945 found her working at an American Red Cross facility, where she met a soldier whom she married in 1946. She arrived in the United States on the first warbride ship from Europe in April, 1946.
The young couple lived in Newark, NJ then settled in Bloomfield, NJ. After many years in Bloomfield, they moved to Boca Raton, FL and then moved to East Norriton, PA in May, 2002.
A son, Michael Cass, died in 2005.
Surviving are her husband of sixty-three years, Nelson E. Cass; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Gehring of Blue Bell, PA and Susan T. and Martin Stess of Raritan Township, NJ; a brother, Dr. Peter Forbath of Toronto, Canada; a sister-in-law, Rose Casamassima of East Norriton, PA; and four grandchildren, Gregory and his wife Luisa Gehring of Yucca Valley, CA, Alex Gehring of Blue Bell, PA and David and Andrea Stess of Raritan Township, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
