Marie Vrabel, age 89, died Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Bethlehem PA.
Born April 17, 1932 in Perth Amboy NJ, Marie was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Maszaros) Hegedus. She lived in Woodbridge NJ until moving to Hunterdon County in 1967, and then to Bath PA in 2017.
Marie worked in retail sales for Barker’s in Flemington (now Burlington Coat Factory), and also worked for ten years at Unisys Corp. in Flemington as well.
Marie was an avid bowler, participating in leagues at the West Hunterdon Lanes in Kingwood Township for many years, she also loved playing Bingo and cards with friends, and enjoyed many bus trips with her late husband, Paul, to various Atlantic City casinos. She was a voracious reader, and would read anything she could get her hands on. Watching her favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, brought her much joy, especially during their Super Bowl run in the 2018 season.
One of Marie’s favorite pastimes was to knit and crochet, and over the years, she made many hats, mittens, scarfs and baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brother, John L. Hegedus, her two sisters, Elizabeth Strumple and Helen Zegan, as well as her husband, Paul Vrabel in 2002. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Stevens of Orlando FL, her two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Sandy Vrabel of Kingwood Township NJ, and Chris and Susan Vrabel of Bath PA, as well as her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery on Capner Street in Flemington. Calling hours will be Saturday afternoon from 3:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
