Mark Boriek

Mark Boriek, age 70, died Friday, July 21, 2023 at his home in Delaware Township NJ.

Born February 8, 1953, in Raritan Township NJ, Mark was the son of the late Anthony J. and Beatrice (Diesbusky) Boriek. He lived most of his life in Hunterdon County NJ.

A graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High in the Class of 1971, Mark was a member of the Track & Field team where he threw the javelin. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Biology and worked for many years as the Principal Fisheries Biologist at the Round Valley Reservoir Lab for the New Jersey Fish & Game Department. Mark really enjoyed his job - one of the projects he was involved with was the study of the changing Shad population in the Delaware River so a better understanding of their health, overall numbers, and the migration patterns was gathered.

Mark absolutely loved the outdoors – he could be found wading in Round Valley fishing. He was an expert birder and had the unique talent to accurately identify many birds by their sound without actually seeing the bird. He was an avid road cyclist and took many trips throughout the area. He always took care of his health by lifting weights and taking careful attention to his overall fitness.

While at home, Mark was known for his large vegetable garden, listening to some of his favorite rock music, especially The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. A quiet man, he will be missed by all those that knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his sister, Abby Fredrickson. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Carol (Pepe) Boriek of Frenchtown NJ, his niece, Zoe Fredrickson of Canada and his nephew, Nathan Fredrickson also of Canada.
