Mark W. Gortler, passed away on November 10, 2024, at the age of 69 after a brief illness in Flemington, New Jersey. Born on April 10, 1955, in Staten Island, New York, Mark was a man of quiet strength and remarkable intelligence.
Mark dedicated many years to his career as a mechanic Ocean Power Technologies, where his skills and expertise were greatly valued. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he was an avid traveler, exploring the world with a sense of curiosity and wonder.
An accomplished marksman and skeet shooter, Mark was a former member of the Reaville Sportsman's Club in Reaville NJ. At one time, he was proud to have completed building a car along with help from his father.
A man of many talents, Mark was also an accomplished woodworker, known for creating exquisite furniture pieces and cabinets that will be remembered for their craftsmanship. His passion for knowledge extended into his hobbies, as he enjoyed reading extensively—particularly technical manuscripts and books focused on world history. Mark had a fondness for movies and television programs, with a particular appreciation for history, comedy, and drama.
Mark will be dearly remembered by his wife, Svitlana (Laikh) Gortler of Flemington, NJ; by his daughter, Erika Gortler of Clinton, NJ; and his son, Craig Gortler of Hillsborough, NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Kim Gortler of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Audrey (Syversen) Gortler.
Mark's legacy of love, craftsmanship, and curiosity will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
There will be a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822. A brief prayer service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private at a later date.
