Martin Goodfriend, a dedicated police officer, Army Reserve Officer, and beloved family man, passed away on December 13, 2024, in Stanardsville, Virginia, at the age of 74. Born on May 10, 1950, in Summit, New Jersey, son of the late Beryl M. (Cumberledge) and Daniel Goodfriend, Marty's life was marked by service to others, both in law enforcement and through his military career.

For two years, Marty served as a police officer in Flemington Borough, before transitioning to Readington Township, where he retired after 26 years dedicated to public safety, ascending to the rank of Corporal. Throughout his career, he was an active member of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), reflecting his enduring commitment to his fellow officers and the community he served.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Marty proudly served first in the United States Air Force and then in the Army Reserves, completing his military service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2005.

Marty had a deep appreciation for various interests, including military history, particularly World War II, classic cars, and old movies. He was an avid reader who enjoyed immersing himself in the pages of books, sharing stories and insights with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Goodfriend, who passed away in 2009, and his mother, Beryl M. (Cumberledge) Goodfriend, who passed in 2007. He is also mourned by his first wife, Dorothy A. (Abroscat) Goodfriend, who passed in 2003.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Mullarkey) Goodfriend of Charlottesville, VA; his son, Jason Goodfriend and daughter-in-law, Keri, of Aldie, VA; his daughter, Amy Meredith and son-in-law, Robert, of Morrisville, PA; his son, Kurt Goodfriend and fiancé, Anna Zogby, of Herndon, VA; and his step-daughter Gina Mancuso and her daughter Stella of Charlottesville, VA. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Cailyn, Charlotte, and R.J., who brought joy and pride to his life.  Marty is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Valen, and Kathy and Tom Dermody as well as his brother and sister-in-law, James and Isabel Goodfriend.
