Marvin E. Simon

June 28, 1927 — February 28, 2024

Marvin E. Simon, age 96, of Blairstown NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the Serenity Hospice Care Unit in Hamilton NJ surrounded by his family.

Born June 28, 1927, in Shawnee OK, Marvin was the son of the late Emil and Lefa (Eveland) Simon.

In 1945 at the age of 18, Marvin joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 20 years. His first overseas stint was in Londonderry, Northern Ireland where he met and married his beloved wife, Bernadette, on July 4, 1949. Their Navy adventure started from there and the two lived in several States and countries until his retirement in Washington DC in 1965. He continued his civilian career working for the National Security Agency in the Pentagon until 1980.

Marvin and Bernadette left Washington DC and moved to Blairstown NJ in 1986 to live closer to their daughter, Bernadette and her family, and he thoroughly enjoyed spending special times with them. Marvin was a kind and gentle man and loved by all that knew him.

Marvin was not one to sit around – he always liked to be busy. At one point, he taught himself how to create stained-glass pieces and gifted many of his friends with a special piece of his artwork. He and Bernadette spent every summer in Derry until her passing in May 2020. The two will be buried together in Ardmore Cemetery in Londonderry, Northern Ireland soon.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was predeceased by his two brothers, Father Francis and Ralph, his two sisters, Lorene and Letty, and his beloved wife of 70 years, Bernadette (Canning) Simon. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette and Donnie Robbins of Ewing NJ, as well as being ‘Granda’ to Shaun and his wife, Jaclyn, their children, Aiden, Ashton, and Emerson, and ‘Granda’ to Patrick and his wife, Melissa, and their children, Patrick, Samuel, and Aaron.

Memorial contributions in Marvin’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago IL 60601.
