Mary Kathryn “Kay” Weick (formerly Wohlford), age 93 years, of Readington Township, New Jersey, passed away in the early morning of Monday, March 28, 2022, at her home.
Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Kay was the daughter of the late Clifford P. and Ola Mae (Arnold) Yockey. As an Ohio resident, she resided in Bath and, later, Silver Lake, moving to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in 1997 until 2013, when she joined her daughter’s family in Readington Township, New Jersey.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School, Kay became the first woman in her family to attend college, beginning at Hiram College and then completing her M.S. in library science at age 20 from Kent State University. Initially working for the Akron Public Library, in 1960 she became the librarian for the Woodridge Local School District, where she expanded the library from a stack of 1,000 volumes to a multi-school system over twenty years. She also drove the Medina County bookmobile for a time! Her family remembers her as a dedicated librarian who valued education and worked hard for the benefit of her community. She was a lover of international travel, world history, and dogs big and small.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Paul A. Weick, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Rustom Ramadan, of Readington Township, New Jersey, as well as her two grandchildren, Zachary and Neal.
Burial in the family plot will take place in Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, Ohio.
