Mary Lilian Ries "Honey" Worman, 77, died at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Madison Virginia, on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 1:45 p.m. She had been suffering for years from complex, non-mailignant intestinal disorder. A massive infection which set in a few days earlier was the cause of death.
She was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, on January 11, 1930 to Clyde Ries and his wife, Katherine. Her mother died in 1933, and the late Mary Worman was raised by her mother's sister, Mary Fulmer (later Mary Garren). Mary Worman graduated from Easton High School in 1947 with an academic ranking at the very top of her class. She married Belmont L. Worman, of Flemington, New Jersey, on January 24, 1948 on a wedding day which experienced one of the heaviest snow storms recorded in the middle Atlantic states during the 20th century. After marriage, she and her husband resided in Flemington, where her husband operated an electronics-technician business until 1957, when he became employed by the federal government. At that point, the family relocated to the Warrenton, Virginia area, and for the next 20 years their residence was either in Virginia or in foreign postings, principally Athens, Greece, Nicosia, Cyprus and Banbury, England. After her husband retired from government service in 1977, the couple lived in the Culpepper, Virginia area, where Mary took extensive course work at Germanna Community College. Mary was very interested in and became very knowledgeable about the local history during the War Between the States. She was also a Master Gardener.
Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Belmont L. Worman, 86, of Culpeper, her oldest son, Belmont V. Worman ("Van"), 57, and his wife Virginia G. Worman ("Ginger") of Midland, Virginia, and her other son, Jeffrey F. Worman, 52, and his wife Kathleen of Warren, Oregon. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jeremy D. Worman of Bluffton, South Carolina and Amanda Worman ("Chalky") of Warren, Oregon.
