Mary Mina Fitz

Mary Mina Fitz was born on April 2, 1923 and passed away at her home on Monday, February 17, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Grace Carolla Mina and Vincent Mina. She was married to J. Robert Fitz for fifty-two years before he died in 1994.

Mary graduated from Flemington High School in 1940 and Rider School of Business. Her life’s work was in the family floral business, Flemington Floral Company, which was started by her father in 1923, the year she was born.

A lifetime area resident and longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, she was a member of the Flemington Woman’s Club as well as a volunteer for Hunterdon Hospice.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Mary is survived by her sons, Richard of Rhinebeck, NY and Vincent and wife, Elaine of Alexandria Township, NJ; her daughter Lisa and husband, Britt Long of Flemington, NJ; her grandsons, Andrew Fitz and wife, Meredith of Washington Township, NJ, Brian Fitz of Kingwood Township, NJ, Jeremy Long and wife, Jessica of Neshanic Station, NJ and Dustin Long of Hoboken, NJ; her great granddaughters, Amanda, Rachel, Riley and Avery Fitz; and great grandsons, Mason and Quincy Long.

She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Tony in 1998 and Pete in 2013. Her remaining surviving family include a sister, Rose Scrosoppi of Florida, NY and her nieces, Nancy Grant and Terry Numa and their families; and a brother, Albert Mina of Kingwood Township, NJ. She is also survived by her beloved caregivers, Jeannie Jones and Agnes Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Kabali on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the Church on Friday morning. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
