Mary P. Higgins

Mary P. Higgins, age 96 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Friday, February 14, 2014, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, September 27, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Eodise Valentino. She had resided in Hunterdon County, NJ since 1959.

She was a seamstress in Plainfield, NJ, making clothes for Lord & Taylor. For years she was a self-employed caregiver in Hunterdon County, NJ at homes and nursing facilities, and later worked many years at the Hobby Horse Nursery School in Raritan Township, NJ where she was affectionately known as "Miss Mary".

She was a communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, and was a life member of the VFW Post #7856 Ladies Auxiliary, Flemington, NJ.

Her husband, John Higgins, died in 1999. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Higgins of Delaware Township, NJ and John Higgins of Churchville, PA; two daughters, Joyce Bolger of Flemington, NJ and Mary Ann Paterniti of Lebanon Township, NJ; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Entombment will be in St. Magdalen mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4-8 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
