Mary Semenoff

Mary Semenoff, age 98 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in New York, NY, November 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Bartinchuk Semenoff. Mary grew up in Manville, New Jersey with her siblings Helen, Michael, John, and Lillian. Some of her fondest memories were playing kickball with her sisters and best friend, Olga, and, also, fishing with her brothers. She attended Bound Brook High School, where she enjoyed her studies. Mary was a life-long singer. She sang in the choir at Manville Baptist Church, where her Sister Helen taught Sunday School. After her Father, founded the Calvary Baptist Church in Flemington, Mary joined the choir there.

As a young woman, Mary attended Bellevue Hospital Nursing School in New York City, where she earned her RN. After working for several years in New York City, Mary moved to Raritan Township where her family resided, and worked at Hunterdon Medical Center on the Medical Floor. Eventually, Mary became a visiting Nurse with the Family Nursing Service in Hunterdon County.

Some of Mary’s hobbies included baking, her specialty being lemon poppy seed loaf. She, also, enjoyed canning jams, jellies, and pickles.

Among her favorite memories were Church gatherings, playing games, singing, Bible Study, and dinners.

Mary did volunteer work at Christ’s Home for Orphans in Bucks County.

Mary was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Raritan Township, NJ.

Known for her sweet tooth, Mary resided at Country Arch Care Center from November 2014 until her death. Of Country Arch, Mary said:” I feel at home. I have wonderful; people with me in the same position I’m in. I am blessed.”

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her siblings: Michael, John, Helen, and Lillian. She is survived by her nieces, Lisa and Rhonda Warfield, who reside in Florida and her Nephew, Jonathon Warfield, who resides in Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 11 AM in Calvary Baptist Church, 262 South Main Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10-11 AM in the church.
