Mercedes Jove Alvarez

Mercedes Jove Alvarez, age 97 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ where she resided.

Born in Hatelo, Puerto Rico, February 5, 1908, daughter of the late Edward M. and Mercedes Velez Jove, she had resided in Raritan Township since 2000, having lived in Flemington, NJ prior to that.

A Homemaker, Ms. Alvarez was a Communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ and was a member of the Flemington-Raritan Senior Citizens.

Surviving are three sons, Edward Rivera of Land O'Lakes, FL, Angelo Rivera of Yucaipa, CA and Peter Alvarez of Pompton Lakes, NJ; a daughter, Beatrice "Betty" Phelan of Delaware Township, NJ; a brother, Victor Jove of San Juan, Puerto Rico; a sister, Carmen Gonzales of Arecibo, Puerto Rico; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
