Michael H. Gerrity, age 88, died Sunday, January 5, 2020, at All American Assisted Living in Hillsborough NJ.
Born September 21, 1931, in Newark NJ, Michael was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Burke) Gerrity. He grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark, and moved to various places in New Jersey before settling in Pennsylvania for many years.
Michael joined the US Marine Corp as a Corporal, during the Korean War, and received a Purple Heart for his service to his country.
After his military service, Michael returned home and worked as a Police Officer with the Newark Police Department, where he was a motorcycle officer. He then worked primarily in sales; at Prudential Insurance as a Life Insurance Salesman and for the Yellow Pages in advertising.
He was a fan of crossword puzzles and loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially watching NCIS on television with his grandson. He enjoyed a close relationship with his late wife, Carol Hippe, who died in 2009, and her extended family who always treated him as one of their own.
