Nike Dionysia Gazonas of Flemington, NJ, 58, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of Dorothy Angelica and Aristotle George Gazonas who survive her. Nike grew up and lived much of her life in Flemington, where she attended Delaware Township Elementary School and Hunterdon Central High School excelling in academics, sports and ballet.
She went on to obtain a BS in Biological Sciences from Adelphi University in 1979, an MS in Communications Management in 2009 from Simmons College and was a Ph.D. candidate at Walden University in Public Health/Epidemiology.
Nike’s life and love was centered around the health industry where she served as an Adjunct Professor at the College of New Jersey in the Communication Department and as the Executive Director of Athena Education Group, Lambertville, NJ since 2008; Athena Education Group provided education for doctors and nurses about current trends, treatments, and post-treatment quality of life issues for chronic illnesses like cancer.
Nike was passionate about foreign travel and always managed to organize her education seminars in exotic places.
Nike is survived by her parents named above, children Andreas and Katerina Constantinou, a brother and sister-in-law, George Aristotle and Demitra of Bel Air, MD, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Viewing hours will be Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, N.J. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Rd. Mercerville, N.J. on Friday, June 2. Family and friends can pay their respects at 10:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton Township.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Nike's memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for ER+ Breast Cancer Research of Dr. Maura Dickler and Hodgkin Lymphoma Research.
