Odd Magne Sagaard

Odd Magne Sagaard, 66, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday morning, June 11, 2022.

Odd was born in Farsund, Norway on September 8, 1955 to Eleanor and Per Sagaard. At 6 months old, he and his family left for the United States to begin a new life in Brooklyn, NY.

Odd and his family attended the 59th Street Lutheran Brethren Church in Brooklyn where he met and married his loving wife of 45 years, Laurie. He met Laurie when he was 3 years old, and they sang in a teen church choir together while growing up, traveling the Midwest and Norway. After they were married, they shared a passion for travel, and with many opportunities in Odd’s banking career, they lived globally and traveled the world. Together, they raised their two children, Steven and Julie.

Odd began his career as a foreign exchange trader and vice president with Barclays Bank in New York. He also worked in London, Tokyo, Sydney, and San Francisco. After a successful career at Barclays, he joined Union Paving and Construction in Mountainside, NJ where he worked for the next 21 years.

In his free time, Odd enjoyed hiking with Laurie on the many beautiful trails in and around their home in Long Valley. He loved to take photos and was an avid reader, especially about Civil War history.

Odd was also very active within Mendham Hills Community Church. He and Laurie hosted and mentored young people at their home, where they made everyone feel like family. He was faithful to pray consistently for others and their needs.

Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and a great and loyal friend.

Odd was predeceased by his parents Per and Eleanor Sagaard and in-laws Doris and Arthur Karstensen. He is survived by his wife Laurie; son Steven (Laurie); daughter Julie (Nick) Jones; grandchildren Levi, Remy, and Saija; sisters Tone (Victor) Hellstrom, Sharon (Christopher) Colucci, Lorraine (Kevin) Mick; sister-in-law Karen Karstensen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for all who wish to attend at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 23rd at Mendham Hills Community Church, 480 Route 24, Chester, NJ 07930. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Odd’s name to Beyond the Walls.
