FRANKLIN TWP. -- Orville A. Barrick , a prominent farm and community leader, died March 8, 2000 at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was 76.
A lifelong resident of Franklin Township, he was the son of Edgar and Ruth Case Barrick .
Mr. Barrick was a farmer for over 50 years. He also served as the township's mayor and committeeman, and on the Board of Education.
He began farming with his father but started farming on his own in 1947, later buying the family farm and a second farm, and added more land later to make a 190-acre spread. The farm changed from a general farming operation with poultry, dairy and grain, to a concentration in hay and grain 28 years ago.
He also drove a school bus for Delaware Valley High School for 13 years.
He was honored in 1990 with the Kinnamon Award presented by the Flemington Fair Board of Directors, of which he was a member, and the county Board of Agriculture for his long involvement with Farmer's Day activities at the fair.
Mr. Barrick served on the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committee and on the Flemington and Clinton Agway store committees. He received the county Board of Agriculture's Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award in 1985.
Mr. Barrick was a trustee emeritus for the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum in Delaware Township. He was past president of the Locust Grove Cemetery Association of Quakertown, and was past master of the Oak Grove Grange.
He was a member of the Quakertown United Methodist Church.
Mr. Barrick 's brother, Harold Barrick , died in 1987.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Audrey Shepherd Barrick ; a son, Donald Barrick of Schwenksville, Pa.; two daughters, Linda Squires of Scotch Plains and Joanne Barrick of Portage, Mich.; a brother, Morris Barrick of Flemington, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the church, followed by burial in the Locust Grove Cemetery, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.
