Paul McCormick of Stanton Station, New Jersey died December 9, 2021 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was 90 years old. Born in Philadelphia the son of the late Paul and Hannah Kennedy McCormick, he was raised in Easton PA and graduated from Wilson Boro High School in 1949.
Paul served in the US Navy from 1949 to 1953, attended Lafayette College and earned a BS from West Chester University and MA from Rutgers, and an ED.D from Lehigh. In 1964, he was a Commission on English fellow at the University of Michigan.
McCormick was a teacher of English, Department Chair, and Supervisor at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, New Jersey, retiring in 1982. In addition, he was a visiting instructor at Rutgers and Seton Hall Universities, a consultant for the Westinghouse National Issue Center, and co-author of “Adventures in English Literature,” a widely used high school and community college textbook, published by Harcourt.
He was the founder of The Prescott School and it’s Director from 1977 to 1989.
Paul served for 25 years on the Board of Directors of the Hunterdon County YMCA, twice as President, and as Chairman of the 2000-2001 Capital Campaign. He was also an early member of the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
From 2002 to 2005, Paul was a Public Member of the District XIII Ethics Committee of the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey.
He was a member of the Executive Committee of the New Jersey Association of Teachers of English, of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Modern Language Association, the Center for High School Philosophy, New Jersey Education Association, the Hunterdon County Education Association; and he was a founding member of the Hunterdon Central High School Teachers’ Association.
Paul is survived by Fredetta Ireland McCormick, his spouse of more than 67 years, and three children, Kathleen McCormick (Betty Ann) of New Hope Pennsylvania and Lewes DE; Siobhan Christiansen of Flemington, and James McCormick of Doylestown Pennsylvania, as well as two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
