Pauline Patricia Smith, age 86 years, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Bridgton Residential Health Care Center in Bridgton, Maine.
Born on the morning of the stock market crash, October 29, 1929, in the Bronx, NY, 'Patsy' was the daughter of the late Paul and Selina (Patman) Lauron. She later married the late Earl Paul Smith of Pittstown, NJ, where she lived and worked with her in-laws on the former farm of the historian, Dr. David Race.
She graduated from NY School of Needle Trades (FIT) and later worked as a Page in the Chase Manhattan Bank where she met General Dwight D. Eisenhower being introduced by David and Nelson Rockefeller in 1948.
She sewed custom clothing and did alterations, slipcovers and drapes throughout her life.
She met her husband on a Sunday trip while accompanying a friend to meet her fiancé at the Pittstown Inn.
Earl and Patsy moved to Johnsonville, VT in 1974, and then to Seal Harbor, Maine to establish a herd of Simmental cattle at Bartlett's Island as part of the Greenrock foundation. In 1976, they purchased property in Brownfield Maine, while living a brief time in nearby Bridgton.
She worked stitching outdoor gear and hiking clothing at Chuck Roast in Conway, NH and continued to do so after her husband's death in December, 1981.
In 1999, she began moving from place to place, beginning in Montpelier VT, Keene NH, Barberton, OH, Flemington, NJ, Lovell, ME, and finally Bridgton, ME in 2010.
In addition to her parents and her husband Earl, Patsy was predeceased by her five siblings, Alfred, Rosemarie, Eleanor, Josephine and Samuel, and her grandson, Gordon. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Earl P. and Kristi (Quakenbush) Smith Jr., of Montpelier VT, Stuart J. and Eva (Lenner) Smith of Brownfield, ME, and Glenn and Catherine (Clark) Smith of Bethlehem, PA; her grandchildren Justin, Selina, Emily, Zachary, Clay, Savannah, Sophia, and Conrad; and her great-grandchildren, Anya, Michael, and Elliot.
Graveside services will at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington, NJ.
