Peter Edgar Shrope, age 87, died November 12, 2018. His children, grandchildren, family and friends will dearly miss his storytelling, sharp wit and generous heart. He taught his children and grandchildren to work hard, be kind and open-minded. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on March 29, 1931, the first child of Edgar and Jane Shrope. Pete enjoyed golf at The Oaks Country Club where he was a member for many years and played tennis at The Landings where he lived since 1989. Pete was also a patron of the arts. He loved watching sports, cheering for the Yankees and especially his beloved New York Giants. For the last 33 years he divided his time between his home in The Landings in Sarasota with his wife Pat and their summer home on Schroon Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. At both homes he and Pat always welcomed friends, family, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews with barbecues, conversation, laughter and experiences that created wonderful lifelong memories. Pete and Pat had many adventures traveling during their retirement years. Pete was a civil engineer and 1952 graduate of the University of Vermont. In his early years he was a design engineer on the USS Albacore submarine in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and a field surveyor on many projects in and around southern New York. He managed budgets for statewide projects for the New York State Office of the Budget in Albany for ten years, before moving to New Jersey to become a partner with Vollmer Associates, an engineering/architectural firm in Manhattan where he worked for 25 years.He is survived by his loving wife Patricia and his children; Peter and his wife Stephanie, Catherine and her husband Lewis and Laurel and her husband Brian as well as seven grandchild and two great grandchildren. Additionally, he is also survived by step-children Mark and his wife Jill, Rob and his wife Celina, Jim and his wife LeeAnne and Tina Eckhardt and six grandchildren. He will rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington, New Jersey with four generations of his family. Donations can be made in his honor to the Adirondack Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, P.O.
