Phyllis Claire Godley, age 89, died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Brandywine Senior Living in Pennington (NJ).
Born July 29, 1933 in Trenton NJ, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Frank and Carmela “Mildred” (Palmiere) LaBella. She moved to Ringoes NJ in 1979, where she lived until 2012.
Phyllis was a great lover of travel; with her husband Bill and their friends, she traversed the United States and visited many countries all around the world. She was a master of puzzle games, an avid card player, and took great joy in showering the people she loved with thoughtful and generous gifts. Known as “GMA” to her grandchildren, she was always up for a good gag gift; her laughter as she enjoyed her grandchildren’s latest attempts to top last year’s joke is burned into the memories of those who love her. On her days days off and through much of her retirement, you’d often catch Phyllis basking in sunshine in Beach Haven Gardens, NJ or Venice, Florida. If you wandered into the house while she was cleaning or cooking or just puttering around, you’d be sure to hear her singing or whistling along to the “Sound of Music.”
Phyllis loved pink lipstick, fried shrimp, and a good cannoli, but mostly she loved her family, so very much, and her family loved her fiercely in return. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brandywine at Pennington for their extraordinary care and comfort.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, William V. Godley, Sr., her sister, Mary Hornyak, and her nephew John Hornyak.
She is survived by a stepson William V. Godley, Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Salisbury, NC; two stepdaughters, Linda Ryan and her husband, John, of Lawrenceville, NJ and Lynne Cucco and her husband, Paul, of Southern Shores, NC; ten grandchildren, Liza Cucco (Tim Chew), Sara Dickinson (Tyler), Laura Cucco (Nico Gordon), Rebecca Brenner (Charles), Mary Godley, Jamie Phear (Dan), William V. Godley III (Kailey), Megan Ryan, Hannah Ryan and Paul Cucco; and nine great-grandchildren, Henry, John, and Andrew Dickinson; Asher and Elijah Brenner; Mila, Mateo and Ana Gordon; and William V. Godley, IV, as well as her great grandson due in November 2022 and her niece, Pat Ronalder (Dave) and nephew, Frank Hornyak (Julia).
