Phyllis J. Black, of Bridgewater, NJ, died Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Holly Section of Arbor Glen, Bridgewater, NJ.
Born in Allentown, PA., October 7, 1946, daughter of the late Nevin and Jean Matthews Nagle, she had formerly resided in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, for thirty-three years, then moved to Somerset, NJ before moving to Bridgewater, NJ.
Besides being a housewife, mother and pastor's wife, Phyllis was active on the board of Big Brothers And Big Sisters of Hunterdon County. After moving to Somerset, NJ, she served as a ruling elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, NJ and was Moderator of the Elizabeth Presbytery. She retired as a Senior Trust and Fiduciary Specialist and Senior Vice-President of Wells Fargo Bank.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a brother, James Nagle and a daughter, Lisa.
She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Rev. Frederick L. Black; a daughter, Louise Black of Greenwich Township, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Stacy Black of High Bridge, NJ; two grandchildren, Zackary Black and Olivia Black; and a step grandson, Brandon Kerr, all of High Bridge, NJ; and a brother, Rev. Drew Nagle, and his family, of Rock Island IL.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, 270 Woodbridge Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840 or to the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 2 Race St, Pittstown, NJ 08867.
