Phyllis S. Goodwin

March 29, 1919 — November 20, 2016

Phyllis S. Goodwin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 27th of March 1919 and died in Sergeantsville, New Jersey on the 20th of November 2016.

Her parents Florence and Phillip Schmid had two other children Milne and Jack, all have predeceased Phyllis. Phyllis graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in 1938. In 1939 she worked at AI before the start of the Second World War.

She loved to travel to Europe and Asia. Right after WWII she lived for two years in Japan. In 1958 she started her career at the Hercules Powder Company; first at the Agri-Chem Lab and then later at the Research & Development Center. The Schmid family all worked for Hercules at one time or the other. Phyllis worked for Hercules for thirty-two years and at the same time was a single parent to her son John Goodwin. She proved that there’s nobody stronger than a single parent.

Phyllis traveled Europe with her friend Evelyn Payne, another Hercules employee. She liked traveling the United States, especially her trips to Arizona, with her daughter in-law Eileen. In her later years her interests revolved around the love of reading, doing puzzles and trips to the Delaware Shore with her friend Lou Jackson.

In 2010 she moved to Lambertville, New Jersey to be closer to her son and daughter in- law. In lieu of flowers donations in the memory of Phyllis may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515 Northampton, MA. 01061-0515.

Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
