Phyllis Sokol Hooper

Phyllis Sokol Hooper, age 81 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at her home.

Born in Somerville, NJ, March 12, 1928, daughter of the late Frank and Irma Kasnya Sokol, she had resided in the Flemington, NJ area all of her life.

She was an editorial assistant for Contractors and Engineers Magazine, then was a data entry person for Health Products Research, Whitehouse, NJ, and then was Treasurer of the Flemington Presbyterian Church for several years.

A 1946 graduate of Flemington High School and the Scudder School, New York City, she was a member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church and its Womens Association; member of the Flemington Womans Club; former volunteer at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, and was also a volunteer for Hunterdon Hospice.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-eight years, Glenn Hooper; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Gwiazda of Greenport, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Thomas and Patricia Hooper of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren: Megan Hooper-Pratt, Emilie Pridgen, Katherine Robertson, and Peter John Gwiazda; and one great grandchild, Tanner Perryman. A son, Peter Hooper, died in 1992, and a grandson, Thomas Hooper, died in 2000.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Flemington Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 7-9 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
