Raymond Ray Lewandowski, affectionately known as Lou, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and educator, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on February 26, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey, Lou was the cherished son of Wesley and Genevieve Lewandowski.
He grew up in Springfield, New Jersey, where he developed a passion for sports, earning accolades as a high school wrestler and later as a boxer during his service in the Army. After his time in the military, Lou dedicated himself to the field of education, teaching math in Santa Clara, California, and impacting the lives of countless students over a 25-year career. Although he never completed his doctorate, his Master’s in Education was a testament to his commitment to lifelong learning and his unwavering belief in the power of education to change lives. In retirement, Lou settled in sunny Phoenix, Arizona, where he enjoyed the warmth of the desert and the company of friends and family.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Marie Lewandowski of Whitehouse, New Jersey; his nephew, Daniel Mirota of San Jose, California; and his niece, Melissa Fenton of Kansas City, Missouri. Lou was honored with a military burial at the National Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country with pride and dignity. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for education will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Lou. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
