Reginald Dennis Bowers, fondly known as "Reg," passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on March 1, 1939, in Bedminster, NJ, he grew up in Oldwick, NJ before establishing his home in Holland Township, NJ, where he lived since 1972.
Reg was formerly employed at Tenneco Chemicals, Inc., in Flemington, NJ, before spending the majority of his career as a Shift Supervisor at Occidental Petroleum in Burlington, NJ. He retired in 2001 after 42 years, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work.
A proud United States Army veteran, Reg served as a military policeman from 1962 to 1964, an experience he held dear throughout his life. His commitment to service extended beyond his military duty, as evidenced by his passion for the outdoors. Reg was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, lending his support to multiple organizations, including the Traditional Archers of New Jersey, the United Bowhunters of New Jersey, the National Rifle Association, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Forks of the Delaware Archaeological Society.
Reg possessed a fervent enthusiasm for sports. Aside from playing on the Tenneco softball team, he was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees, New York Jets, and New York Rangers. His love of NASCAR was perhaps most characterized by his admiration for Richard Petty and the entire Petty Motorsports team. Many cherished Saturdays were spent at the Flemington Speedway, where he delighted in the thrill of racing.
Reg was predeceased by his parents, the late Chester A. and Helen S. (Lare) Bowers; and his brother, the late Chester "Skip" Bowers, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene V. (Troegner) Bowers of Holland Township, NJ, whom he married on June 15, 1963. He is also survived by his son, Duane Bowers, of Libby, MT, and his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Eric Schaffer, of Stewartsville, NJ. Reg will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren: Josh, Sarah, Codie, Randi, and Erica, along with his five great-grandchildren: Lucas, Olive, Rye, Romee Lee, and Carmen.
Services to honor Reg's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Phillipsburg Alliance Church, where he regularly attended, located at 255 Lincoln Street, Phillipsburg, NJ.
