Rev. Vicente I. Maldonado

Rev. Vicente I. Maldonado, age 96 years, of Flemington, NJ, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Siguatepeque, Honduras, December 28, 1927, he was the son of the late Maximiliano Jimenez and Maria Maldonado.

As a young man, he graduated from the Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Colombia in 1966. After becoming ordained, he was pastor of the First Baptist Church and subsequently of Central Baptist Church in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He and his wife, Maria F. Maldonado, were an integral part of the Baptist community in Honduras. In fact, he was multiple past-president of The National Convention of Baptist Churches in Honduras and past-director of the Baptist Seminary in Honduras for many years.

In 1983, he and Maria immigrated to the United States and first settled in New Orleans, LA. There, he led the Central Baptist Church congregation from 1983-1995. Prior to making his way to New Jersey, he had resided in Rockville, MD from 1995-1998, Bethel, CT from 1998-2000, and finally Flemington, NJ for the last 24 years. Shortly after moving to Flemington, NJ, Pastor Maldonado came out of retirement and helped found the Salem Baptist Church in Elizabeth, NJ. There, he mentored and trained Pastor Arnaldo Gonzalez, who remains pastor of the church to this day! 

Aside from being a well-known figure in the local Christian Hispanic community, Rev. Maldonado was an avid reader and even translated many theological texts from English to Spanish. Not to mention, he was also fluent in ancient Hebrew and Greek. A constant learner throughout his life, his family remembers the stacks of notebooks he kept while studying a new subject. 

Above all, he will be remembered as a humble and caring family man. He spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and would even take the time to drive them to and from school, even an hour each way in some cases. His grandchildren will treasure the conversations they had with him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Maria F. Maldonado; his son, Wilfredo Maldonado; as well as his siblings, Jose Maldonado, Maximiliano Jimenez, Jr., and Lucila Soliz.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Samuel Maldonado and his wife, Miriam of Flemington, NJ, Mario Maldonado and his wife, Nora of Memphis, TN, Lizete Castro and her husband, Juan Ramon of Longview, TX, Fannie Castellano and her husband, Carlos also of Memphis, TN and his daughter-in-law, Susana Maldonado of Miami, FL; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Lidia, Debora, Argentina, and Aurora Jimenez.

A visitation will take place on Friday morning, September 6, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Daniel Troutman, will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment, beside Maria, will be in Cherryville Mountainview Cemetery, 594 Cherryville Road, Cherryville, NJ.

El Rev. Vicente I. Maldonado de 96 años de edad y residente en Flemington, NJ, pasó a la presencia del Señor el lunes 2 de septiembre del 2024 rodeado de su familia amada. Nacido en Siguatepeque, Honduras el 28 de diciembre de 1927, él fue hijo de quien en vida fuera Maximiliano Jiménez y María Maldonado. 

Él se graduó del Seminario Teológico Bautista de Cali, Colombia en 1966. Después de su ordenación como pastor, el pastoreó la Primera Iglesia Bautista y subsecuentemente la Iglesia Bautista Central en Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Él y su esposa María Francisca Maldonado fueron parte integral de la comunidad Bautista de Honduras. Tanto así, que él fue presidente de la Convención Nacional de Iglesias Bautistas de Honduras en múltiples ocasiones y también fue director del Seminario Bautista de Honduras por muchos años. 

 En 1983, él y su esposa inmigraron a los Estado Unidos de América donde él fue pastor de la misión hispana de la Iglesia Bautista Central de New Orleans, LA hasta su jubilación en 1995. Antes de llegar a New Jersey, él residió en Rockville, MD de 1995 a 1998 y luego Bethel, CT de 1998 al 2000. Finalmente llegando a residir en Flemington donde vivió los últimos 24 años de su vida terrenal. Poco tiempo después de llegar a New Jersey él dejó su jubilación para fundar la Iglesia Bautista Salem en Elizabeth, NJ. Allí él entrenó y aconsejó al Pastor Arnaldo González, quien hasta la fecha es el pastor de esa iglesia.

 Aparte de ser bien conocido en la comunidad cristiana de Flemington, el Rev. Maldonado le encantaba la lectura y tradujo varios libros del inglés al español y viceversa. También conocía muy bien los idiomas griego y hebreo bíblicos. A él siempre le gustaba aprender nuevas cosas y su familia recuerda como tenÍa muchos cuadernos en los que anotaba los nuevos conocimientos que adquiría. 

 Pero sobre todo, él será recordado como un hombre humilde que cuidaba mucho a su familia. Él pasó mucho tiempo con sus nietos locales a quienes llevaba y traía de la escuela diariamente. Sus nietos recordarán las muchas conversaciones que tuvieron con él.

Además de sus padres, él fue precedido en su muerte por su esposa de 69 años, María Francisca Maldonado; su hijo, Wilfredo Maldonado; como también sus hermanos, José Maldonado, Maximiliano Jiménez hijo, y Lucila Soliz. 

Su velatorio será el viernes 6 de septiembre de las 10 a las 11 AM en Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. El servicio fúnebre será oficiado por el Pastor Daniel Troutman de las 11 AM en adelante en la casa funeraria. Seguidamente, su entierro será al par de su esposa en el cementerio Cherriville Mountanview, 594 Cherriville Road, Cherriville, NJ.
