Richard C. Kaempfer, Jr. died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his home in Flemington. He was 92.

Born in Clifton, N.J., he was the son of Richard C. Kaempfer, Sr. and Mary VanDuren Kaempfer.

He lived in Ontario, Canada, Basking Ridge and Tewksbury before moving to Flemington 20 years ago.

Mr. Kaempfer graduated from Clifton High School and attended Rutgers University before joining the U.S. Army in May of 1943. He served as a first lieutenant in the artillery and anti-aircraft battalions until his discharge in 1946.

He worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1978 as a vice president for the Eastern Home Office. After his retirement, Mr. Kaempfer worked as the Director of Purchase and Property for the State of New Jersey in Trenton for several years.

While living in Basking Ridge, Mr. Kaempfer served on the Board of Education for 9 years and as president in 1965. He also belonged to the Kiwanis Club for many years and was a member of the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Kaempfer enjoyed photography, gardening, traveling and watching the Yankees. He was a life time member of the Scarlet R Club, supporting Rutgers' athletic programs, and participated in fund raising for the Paper Mill Playhouse.

He was devoted to his family. His first wife Margaret Lochridge Kaempfer died in 1976. He is survived by his second wife Irene Rose Kaempfer. He is also survived by his three daughters and their spouses, Margaret and Donald Harjes of Tewksbury, Carol and Tom Boyer of Tucson, AZ and Joyce and Joe King of Sterling, MA, his 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Margaret, Patrick, Sean, Caitlin, and Thomas and 5 great grandchildren.
