Richard D. Cull

February 1, 1956 — April 11, 2015

Richard D. Cull, beloved brother, uncle, nephew, father to Ben, former husband, former brother-in-law, colleague, neighbor, drinking pal, golf partner, avid Steelers fan and friend to thousands, passed away at his home on Saturday April 11, 2015, in the company of close friends and relatives. Born on February 1, 1956 in Elizabeth NJ to Philip H. Cull and Shirley Watt Cull, Rich grew up in Readington Twp. He graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1974 and attended Rutgers University. Since 1976 he has worked at Kuhl Corporation. Rich is survived by his sister Janet Santos of Toms River NJ, his brother Robert Cull of Upper Black Eddy PA, his uncle Richard K. Watt, his aunt Jane Cull, his nephews Phillip Santos and Robert & Alexander Cull, his nieces Jennifer and Rebecca Santos, and his loyal dog Ben. He was predeceased by his parents and his fiancée Melinda Bush Sparatta. Rich was a fun-loving guy and will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity, humor, music (guitar and vocal) and willingness to help almost anyone who had a need he could fill. His love for music and his talent touched many lives. He was never afraid of challenges and could build or invent just about anything. His involvement with the Flemington VFW and American Legion (where he was S.A.L.), as well as the Flemington Elks, knew no limits. He was totally dedicated and rolled up his sleeves whenever necessary. While in high school he was an Instructor in the HCHS Challenger program from 1971 to 1974, rigorously training other students in mountain climbing and other outdoor activities. After cancer was diagnosed in mid-2014, Rich’s courage and fortitude were visible daily. He will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. In lieu of (or in addition to) flowers, donations to WDVR, Hunterdon’s local non-profit radio station in Sergeantsville, would be greatly appreciated. Rich listened to WDVR all day long, making and receiving musical requests. When asked which of the DJ’s he liked best, he responded “All of them!” Donations, which are sorely needed to enable the station to continue its mission, can be made online or by mail. Either go to www.wdvrfm.org or send your check to WDVR at PO Box 191, Sergeantsville NJ 08557. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7:30 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-7:30 PM in the funeral home. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for further information, or to send condolences.
