Richard Derrico

January 22, 1967 — July 27, 2015

On Monday, July 27, 2015, Richard Robert Derrico passed away peacefully at age 48, in his home in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. He was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, on January 22, 1967, to Marilyn Mazzarulli and James Derrico. Rick graduated from Mamaroneck High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from Johnson & Wales University in 1989. He married Christa DiIenno on June 17th, 1995 in Far Hills, New Jersey. Soon after they welcomed their son Richard Derrico who was Rick’s pride and joy. After beginning his career in the hospitality industry, his path soon changed to the energy market. In 1991 he went to work for PVM Oil Associates, Inc. as a Natural Gas Broker. In 1998 he left PVM for Cantor Fitzgerald, and in 2000 went on to Bloomberg L.P. In his 15 years at Bloomberg, he moved through a series of promotions as a Core Terminal Sales representative, then FX Sales, Electronic Trading, and became an Application Specialist in 2008. Richard’s career naturally led him to become an Energy Specialist at Bloomberg, and Team Leader of the New York Commodity group. Rick loved representing Bloomberg, enjoyed problem solving (and good meals) with all of his clients, and was a true road warrior. Upon revisiting a small Pennsylvania town, his usual hotel put up a marquis banner reading "Welcome Back Mr. Derrico!!!" Rick was a devoted husband, loving father, loyal brother, caring son and very dear friend to many. He lived his life with enthusiasm and pride. He will be remembered for his charismatic and loyal personality. Anyone who knew Rick would know that family was most important to him and he was very proud of his relatives. He possessed a most cheerful spirit and infectious laugh that usually came out, more often, with his competitive nature. He was a passionate golfer, and a big fan of the NY Yankees, Giants, and the Rangers. Any debate of supremacy in their respective leagues would end in a history lesson on who had won more World Series and Super Bowls (and the 1994 Stanley Cup). His medallion of choice was an old, faded Yankees cap - irreplaceable because it had character. Although Richard’s time on earth was cut short, friends and family would agree that he lived life to the fullest with a great big heart. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Christa Derrico; son Richard Derrico; mother Marilyn Mazzarulli; father James Derrico; brothers James Derrico and Edward Derrico; stepbrother Paul Mazzarulli and eleven nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, August 14, 2015, at 10:00 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 249 Bebout Avenue, Stirling, NJ 07980.
