Richard Henry Barnes

Richard Henry Barnes, age 93 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Born in Philadelphia, PA, October 29, 1924, he was the son of the late William and Sarah Goddard Barnes. He had resided in Raritan Township since 1965. His wife, Barbara Ann Barnes, died in 2007. Surviving is his daughter, Cynthia Barnes, of Boston, MA. Mr. Barnes was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He served in Attu Island, Alaska. He was a graduate of West Chester College in Pennsylvania. A retired educator, Mr. Barnes spent 24 years teaching history at Delaware Valley High School. He was an avid fisherman and was known for his great love of all animals, particularly his pet cats and dogs. Mr. Barnes also enjoyed extensive world travel with his wife and daughter throughout his life. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 12:30 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial with full military honors will take place on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:30 PM in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA.
