Richard L. Mclarty

May 17, 1954 — September 15, 2019

Richard L. McLarty, age 65 years, of Ringoes, NJ, died on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Born in Ramsey, NJ, May 17, 1954, he was the son of the late Robert and LaVerne Walker McLarty. He had resided in Hunterdon County most of his life. Richard was a 1972 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, and a graduate of Mercer County Community College. He was a carpenter and a former school bus driver for Hunterdon Central High School for many years. Rich was former President of the Union for the drivers. He was also a volunteer with the Amwell Valley Rescue Squad during the 1970’s. Rich was an accomplished horseman who climbed into the saddle for the first time at the age of 3. He competed very successfully at horse shows all through his youth and early adulthood. He enjoyed competing in Pony Club, Three- day events, and Thoroughbred racing. He loved fox hunting and was a member of several hunting organizations. Rich was a member of the Amwell Valley Fox Hounds, and the U.S. Pony Club. Many fond memories will be shared with friends and family of the farm life. Whether it is about putting hay in the barn, going deer and pheasant hunting, preparing for a horse show, or chasing loose cows in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm; these will be shared time and again. Although opinionated and at times a challenge, Rich would not deny giving someone a hand when needed. Even in death, he gave himself to medical science so others can have the benefits of a better life. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann McLarty Seems. Surviving are a daughter, Emily McLarty of Southampton, PA; two grandchildren; two brothers, Robert McLarty of Hamilton, NJ, and James McLarty of Flemington, NJ; and a sister, Pamela Barrick, of Flemington, NJ. Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
