Rita Viola (Buonassisi) Garcia, age 85 years, of Clinton Township, NJ, died on Friday, January 26, 2018 at her residence.
Born in Port Richmond, Staten Island, NY, May 25, 1932, she was the wife of the late Joseph Garcia of Mariner’s Harbor, Staten Island, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Conchetta Pompa Buonassisi (Giaco) and Great-grandmother of the late Lisa-Marie Halstead. She relocated and resided in Forked River, Lacey Township NJ., from 1984 up through this past year.
From 1974 she volunteered her office expertise for many years at St Joseph St Thomas School office in Pleasant Plains, Staten Island NY.
After her education she was an administrative assistant / secretary working for Consolidated Edison Staten Island in the 1950’s, after her family was grown she was again employed as an administrative secretary at the Bank of Tokyo in NYC and as a legal secretary in Ocean County, NJ.
Surviving are a daughter Margaret Ann Garcia-Mathier of Asheville NC, a son Joseph Vincent Garcia and daughter-in-law Lisa Garcia of Staten Island. Two granddaughters: Susan Halstead Polston and her husband David, Jo-Anne Mathier-Minner and her husband Kenneth, and four great-granddaughters: Samantha Brown, Kaylee Halstead, Jerica Minner and De’Andra Minner, and her many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Rd, Annandale, NJ. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island, NY 10306, on the back upper level of cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St. Flemington, NJ 08822.
