Robert A. Mulligan, age 87 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his home.
Born on February 16, 1925 in New Brunswick, NJ, son of the late Thomas and Katherine Kelly Mulligan, he had resided in Readington Township for the past forty-seven years.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Mulligan was a sprinkler fitter with the National Automatic Sprinkler Fitters Union, Local # 696, for over fifty years.
He greatly enjoyed working outdoors on his yard in Readington and during the 1950’s, he played halfback for NY/NJ State Pro League for the Plainfield Saracens and the Plainfield Raiders.
His wife, Eleanor Golcheski Mulligan, died in 2005.
Surviving are his children, Arlene Meyers of Troy, OH, Thomas Mulligan of Robbinsville, NJ, Daniel Mulligan of Readington, NJ, Linda Miller of Ewing, NJ, John Mulligan of Panama City, FL, Kathleen Hindle of Flemington, NJ, James Mulligan of Lewisburg, PA, Carol Wayman of Crestview, FL, Jean Demarest of Oak Ridge, NC, Patricia Mulligan of Three Bridges, NJ and Kenneth Mulligan of Flemington, NJ; two brothers, Thomas Mulligan of Hemet, CA and George Mulligan of Panama City, FL; twenty-two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the Church on Saturday morning. Interment will follow in Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ.
