Robert A. Yard, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his residence.

Born May 18, 1919, he was the son of the late Harry and Annie Snyder Yard and was a longtime Raritan Township resident.

A 1939 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, he was the Owner and Operator of Yard Slaughter House, Raritan Township, NJ for over fifty years.

Mr. Yard was a former two term Mayor of Raritan Township, NJ and served two terms on the Raritan Township Committee. He was a Member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church, Three Bridges, NJ.

A Veteran of the United States Marine Corps., he was a member of the Flemington American Legion Post #159, Flemington, NJ. A Charter member of both the Flemington-Raritan First-Aid & Rescue Squad and the Jaeger Wheelmen, Mr. Yard was also a member of the South Park Hunting Club, the Military Vehicle Collector's Club, the National Rifle Association and the Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Society.

His wife of sixty-seven years, Florence Porter Yard, died in 2004.

Surviving are a son, Robert H. Yard, of Raritan Township, NJ; four daughters: Judy Yard Hall, of Raritan Township, NJ, Dottie Yard Saling, of Bridgewater, NJ, Cathie Yard Smith, of Belvidere, NJ, and Susan Yard Palmer, of Signal Mountain, TN; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Stanley Yard of Three Bridges, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
