Robert Alan Medve, Md

d. October 25, 2014

Robert Alan Medve left this earth very unexpectedly on October 25, 2014 at the age of 49 as a result of a sudden heart attack. At the time of his death, Rob was enjoying a beautiful fall day in New Jersey and had just finished a bike ride; one of his favorite pastimes. Rob is survived by his wife, Cari, their sons, Collin Evans Medve (6) and Cooper Alan Medve (4), as well as by Christopher Medve (14), Matthew Medve (14), and Madeline Medve (14), children of Rob and his former wife, Kathy Kiesel. He is also survived by his mother Ethel and brother Paul.

Rob was precocious from an early age and excelled in academics, athletics, and the arts. He was a proud Eagle Scout, an accomplished saxophone player, a vintage baseball player and historian, and a dedicated student and professional. As a teenager, Rob was accepted into a competitive accelerated collegiate program that allowed him to complete his bachelor’s (Penn State) and medical degrees (Jefferson Medical College) in just six short years. His keen intellect coupled with his notable work ethic made him a well-known and respected figure in the medical field—particularly in the arena of pain management where he worked in a number of leadership capacities in many remarkable companies including Cara Therapeutics, Nektar Therapeutics, NeurAxon Inc., Lifetree Clinical Research, and Johnson & Johnson to name a few. Throughout his 20 year career, Rob was able to bring many important new medicines to the field. He was dedicated to helping relieve people’s suffering.

Though his professional accolades were many, his greatest accomplishment was his ability to be a devoted husband and an attentive father who prioritized his family above the many other professional demands he faced. Perhaps he sensed his time with his family would be unfairly short because he maximized every moment and constructed a legacy filled with memories of time spent traveling, playing, cooking, sharing, and simply being with the ones he loved. His perceptive spirit, loving nature, witty humor, jovial personality, and veracious character are unparalleled. In many important ways, these qualities will live on in the traits of his adoring children who will remember their dad as someone who not only loved to be with them but as someone who constantly showed love to them. His capacity for love was never more apparent than in his affection for his wife, Cari. It was evident to even a casual observer that theirs was a real love story and it is a story that will continue to unfold throughout eternity.

Though Rob’s home was in New Jersey, in recent years he developed an affinity for the beautiful landscape of Utah where he loved to hike, ski, cycle, and enjoy the outdoors with his family. Here, amidst the majestic Utah mountains, he will be laid to rest and visited often by those who love and miss him.
