Robert George Hagon of Galloway, NJ passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 27, 2019. Born on May 10, 1918 in Newark, NJ, Bob was proud to mention his age of 101 and a half!
During the Depression, he participated in the Civil Conservation Corps where he was assigned to the U.S. Forestry Service in Idaho. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed on New Caledonia in the South Pacific as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class.
Returning home, he married Agnes McAteer in 1950. Building his own home, he raised his family in Livingston and went on to become a custom home builder. Bob loved birdwatching, reading widely, traveling to our National Parks, tending a garden, rooting for the NY Mets and dabbling in the stock market.
He is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Agnes, parents, Frederick George Hagon and Jennie Hagon Doyle, sister, Ruby Nyberg, and brother Roland Hagon. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Laurel (Harvey) Schrier, Kathleen (David) Snyder, Robert (Catherine) Hagon, two granddaughters, Elizabeth Schrier and Taylor Snyder, along with loving family members and lifelong friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial, with full military honors, will take place on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10:30 AM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s School for The Blind, 761 Summit Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307.
