ROBERT H. THATCHER, age 79 years, of Raritan Township, NJ died on Monday, March 1, 2004 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Born in Flemington, NJ, November 19, 1924, he was the son of the late David and Blanche Madeley Thatcher. He had resided in the Flemington area all of his life.

He was a 1942 graduate of Flemington High School. At one time, he was employed at Howell's Amoco Service Station, Flemington, NJ. He was an inspector for the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles for twenty-two years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Hunterdon County YMCA, Readington Township, NJ.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War 2, serving in combat in the Pacific. He was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church; Past Master of Darcy Lodge #37, F. & A.M., of Flemington; Past Patron of Darcy Chapter #138, O.E.S., of Flemington; member of the Crescent Temple Shrine, Trenton, NJ; and the Hunterdon County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Flemington Fire Department, and its' Relief Association, and the Exempt Fireman's Association; Flemington Legion Post #159, and the Tin Can Club of W.W. 2 Navy veterans who served on Destroyers.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Davis Thatcher; three sons, Philip E. Thatcher, of Neshanic Station, NJ, Thomas A. Thatcher, of Easton, PA., and Robert R. Thatcher, of Los Angeles, CA.; a brother, A. Lewis Thatcher, of Hellertown, PA.; a sister, Kathleen Nodes, of Flemington, NJ; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Flemington Baptist Church, Main Street and Church Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 7-9 PM at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
