Robert K. “Bob” Schroeder, 76, of Flemington, NJ passed away after a long illness at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ on Monday, January 27, 2020.
Born on June 10, 1943 in York, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Kraus and Gloria (White) Schroeder. He is predeceased by his twin brother Charles “Chuck” Schroeder.
Bob graduated from York Suburban High School in York, PA in 1961, and he earned a B.S. in education from West Chester State College in 1965. After graduation, Bob taught health and physical education at the Reading-Fleming Middle School in Flemington from 1965-2002. He also coached soccer, boys basketball, gymnastics, boys lacrosse and girls volleyball at the middle school level. In the summers he was the long-time swim team coach at the Valley Club in Flemington.
Additionally, Bob had a long and distinguished career coaching lacrosse at Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington. He was a junior varsity coach in 1974, the varsity assistant in 1982-83, and then the head coach from 1984-2005. He amassed a record of 265-143 over 22 years, including 9 conference championships in three different conferences, state runners-up finishes in 1996 and 1999, and the 2005 Group IV state championship. He was inducted into the NJSIAA Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004, and into the New Jersey Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in 2007.
Bob had great passion for teaching and coaching, enjoyed a terrific rapport with his colleagues, and took tremendous pride in witnessing the accomplishments of his numerous former students and players.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janis, two sons, Pete (Kelly) Schroeder of Louisville, Kentucky, Stan Schroeder of Flemington; brothers Steven (Darlene) Schroeder of Flower Mound, Texas and Scott (Marla) Schroeder of Charlotte, North Carolina; his sisters-in-law Seniang Schroeder and Nancy (Mike) Strailey, as well as his two dogs, Sophy and Olivia.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 5 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad and Hunterdon Hospice for their assistance when Bob needed it most.
