Robert L. Cavanaugh, age 76 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township.

Born in Washington, DC, November 5, 1936, son of the late Roy and Kathryn Goldsmith Cavanaugh, he had formerly resided in Toms River, NJ, before moving to Raritan Township thirteen years ago.

Bob served with the US Army Special Forces and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1973 after a twenty year Army career. After retiring from the Army, he was associated for twenty years with Cavanaugh Pest Control in Freehold, NJ and in Whitehouse, NJ.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Clinton Township, NJ; Flemington American Legion Post #159, and was also a member of Hope Mills Lodge, F&AM of Hope Mills, NC.

Threebrothers, Bill Cavanaugh, David Cavanaugh, and Richard Cavanaugh pre-deceased him.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Carmelita Varela Cavanaugh; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Cindy Cavanaugh of Saudi Arabia, and Robert and Patty Cavanaugh of Jackson, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Mick Reed of Denver, CO.; three brothers, Ralph of Freehold, NJ, Joseph of Toms River, NJ, and James of Hammond, IN.; a sister, Pat Cavanaugh of Gilbertsville, PA.; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 2:00PM in the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Red Schoolhouse Road, Clinton Township, NJ. Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Washington Crossing, PA. Calling hours will be Saturday 11:00AM- 1:00PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
