Robert L. Delaney, M.D.

Robert L. Delaney, M.D., of Raritan Township, New Jersey and Duck Key, Florida, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Hunterdon Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.

Robert was born in Belmont, MA, January 24, 1936, the son of the late Richard and Laura Halloran Delaney. He was a longtime resident of the Flemington area, moving here in 1969.

Robert graduated from Boston College with a MS of Physiology, and went on to receive his M.D. from Creighton University. After completing his medical residency at the Mayo Clinic, he moved to the Flemington area and worked as a cardiologist at the Hunterdon Medical Center from 1969 until his retirement in 1996. He taught in Hunterdon Medical Center’s residency program for many years, and was named Teacher of the Year in 1984.

Robert loved baseball and baseball history, and was a lifelong Red Sox fan; he was an avid chef, and was loved by a wide circle of friends.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Jeanene Delaney; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and James Devaney of Cohasset, MA, and Maureen and Carl Ailara of Kingwood, NJ; his son Robert L. Delaney, Jr. of Newport News, VA and his son and daughter-in-law John Delaney and Lara Evangelista of Forest Hills, NY, and twelve grandchildren: James, Cate and Kasey Devaney of Cohasset, MA; Michael, Zach and Lexie Ailara of Kingwood, NJ; Charlie, Ella, and Robert Lincoln Delaney III of Moorestown, NJ; and Oliver, Liam and Stefan Delaney of Forest Hills, NY.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment in St. Magdalen Mausoleum, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ, will be private.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of his dedication to medicine in Hunterdon County, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
